Please read the below before submitting request
The mission of the ERHS is to save lives and support all-hazards emergency operations 24/7 by rapidly deploying and inserting the rescue capabilities of the aircraft and personnel directly to an incident scene. If required, the ERHS can transport the rescued directly from the incident scene to the appropriate medical facility. The ERHS is funded by the State Government, managed by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), and sponsored by RAC.
Requesters and their attendees agree to comply with the requirements listed herein and acknowledge that the ERHS may be operationally tasked at any time regardless of scheduled arrangements. Due to 24/7 operations, any ERHS personnel have the discretion to restrict access to: the Rescue Helicopters, interaction with ERHS personnel, and public entry to the ERHS bases. The ERHS Pilot is ultimately responsible for the safe and compliant operation of the Rescue Helicopter and therefore has the right to refuse, cancel or abort any request if they suspect Flight Crew, public, or aircraft safety is compromised.
Requests for support will be considered based on merit and alignment to the ERHS mission. DFES is accountable to the community and other stakeholders for the safe and efficient use of ERHS resources. Requestors must provide enough information to enable justification for attendance by, or support from ERHS Rescue Helicopters or its personnel.
Benefit to ERHS: What is the request alignment and benefit to the ERHS? Benefits may include, but not be limited to: operational familiarisation training with stakeholders, enhancing operational safety or patient care, improving joint operations coordination, regional engagement and awareness of the service, or enhancing first response and training.
Adequate Notification: Requesters should submit this form in the noted timeframe for each Request Category to permit adequate time for the approval and coordination processes, or the request may be declined.
Rescue Helicopter Base Tour: Requests for 1-hour base tours must commence between the hours of 9am - 3pm. Requests outside these hours cannot be accommodated due to operational requirements and ERHS Flight Crew fatigue management. Group / bus transportation is highly recommended due to on-site parking limitations. The contact person should call the base one (1) hour prior to scheduled time to confirm availability. Closed-toed shoes MUST be worn during base visits, and high heeled shoes are not permitted. Groups are limited to 30 individuals - larger groups may request separate bookings. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted. Groups with minor aged children under the age of 18 will require one (1) adult chaperon for every eight (8) children. All visitors will be required to undergo a facility orientation and safety induction, and will comply with all safety requirements, procedures and policies for visitors at DFES facilities.
Training Support Considerations / Requirements: Joint / multi-agency emergency services training support requests are highly encouraged. Consider the suitability / realistic scenario of the training to incorporate the ERHS helicopter. All applicable Aviation SOPs and safety procedures must be complied with the proposed training request, to include those related to helicopter (rotary wing) landing / take-off and hoisting operations. It is the Requester's responsibility to facilitate approval from local government and land owners for the helicopter to land / operate at the proposed hoisting / Helicopter Landing Site (HLS). All applicable PPC and PPE must be worn during the training event (to include wearing of hearing and eye protection). An Exercise / Training Brief must be submitted prior to request approval, with any required Safety Risk Assessment being conducted by ERHS personnel. The Requester must be able to restrict access and clear the operating area out to 45m radius of all persons, vehicles, equipment, animals, and other potential obstacles / items which may become airborne from the helicopter’s downwash during hovering, hoisting, or take-off / landing. As required, it is also the Requester's responsibility to provide notification to neighbouring houses / businesses of the noise and helicopter activity for the requested training area.
DFES Media Approvals: Any Rescue Helicopter media content generated (to include social media, photos, and videos) must be approved by DFES Media and Corporate Communications prior to publishing / public release. All photos and videos shared provide consent for the images / video to be used by DFES and RAC for promotional and marketing purposes.
