  • Leaving the Abrolhos Islands FHPA for a period exceeding one (1) night constitutes a new stay and a new notification must be submitted.

  • Please read and acknowledge the following guidelines for visitors landing on islands of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands National Park.

    • Camping, fires and pets are not permitted in the national park.

    • To avoid damaging sensitive habitats and heritage sites and for your own safety, stay on shingle and hard surfaces around the perimeter of the islands, or on formed trails (where these are provided). Please do not enter the interior of the islands.

    • Do not disturb animals and observe separation distances prescribed in the Biodiversity Conservation Regulations 2018. Failure to comply with the separation distances constitutes an offence that can incur fines.

      Sealions
    • Maintain 10 m separation distance when on land
    • Maintain 50 m (person) and 100 m (vessels) separation distance in water where possible

      Seabirds
    • Maintain 50 m separation distance from nesting seabirds
    • Minimise use of lights at night to minimise impact on night-flying seabirds
    • Avoid visiting seabird nesting colonies around sunrise and sunset when birds are most active
    • Do not use remotely piloted aircraft (drones) in proximity to seabird colonies
    • Do not kiteboard or fly kites near bird colonies

    • Do not enter mangrove areas. These are fragile habitats that are critically important to a range of animals including nesting seabirds.

    • To avoid introducing pests and diseases, check everything you bring to the islands prior to travelling. Inspect your vessel to ensure it is clean and free of pests. Pay particular attention to backpacks and bags, clothing, footwear, and food containers, checking for animals (especially rodents), insects, plants, soil and seeds.

    • Metal detecting, fossicking and removal of any natural or heritage materials from the islands are not permitted. Failure to observe may result in prosecution.

    • Do not leave any rubbish behind. All rubbish must be taken with you when you depart the national park.
