During a Total Fire Ban, any outdoor work or activity not covered by the Bush Fires Regulations 1954 and that:
- involves the lighting or use of fire, or
- is an activity likely to cause a fire;
requires an exemption issued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).
During a local governments restricted or prohibited burning periods (RPBT) an exemption issued by DFES is required for work or activities that are not covered in regulations and:
Exemptions are issued solely to businesses, industries, and public authorities holding a registered ABN specific to the relevant activity or work. The exemption will outline specific conditions that must be followed to minimise bushfire risk.
