• Prison Officer Re-engagement

  • All returning Department of Justice (DoJ) Prison Officers must meet basic mandatory requirements to be considered for re-engagement.

    Are you eligible? To be eligible for re-engagement, you must meet the following criteria:

    • You worked for DoJ as a Prison Officer for more than 12 months
    • You passed your Prison Officer probationary period
    • You are an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Australian Resident
    • You left the service less than 2 years ago

    The Re-Engagement Process

    Please complete the following questionnaire. The responses you provide will be collated and submitted to the appropriate Delegated Authority for consideration.

    As part of the questionnaire, you will need to upload a current resume/CV and a formal letter requesting consideration of your re-engagement application. Your letter should include the circumstances that led to you leaving, and why you want to return.

    Your letter should be addressed to:

    It is important to note that placement is dependent on vacancies and operational needs.

    If your re-engagement application is approved, you will need to successfully complete some pre-employment assessments before you are eligible to commence. These may include psychometric testing, physical readiness testing and medical assessments.

    The Corrective Services Training Academy will complete an assessment of your previous training and skills. The Academy will advise of any additional or refresher training that you will be required to complete.

    • You passed your Youth Custodial Officer probationary period
    • You are an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Australian Resident

  • Prison location preference for re-engagement

    Placement in metropolitan and regional locations is determined by available vacancies and workforce planning considerations. Please note that if you request placement in a metropolitan prison, you will most likely be assigned to Bandyup, Casuarina, Hakea or Melaleuca, subject to operational needs at the time of your application.

  • References

    A reference report is required from the Superintendent you reported to whilst employed and a Supervisor.
  • Pre Employment Screening

    You are required to undergo integrity screening and national criminal history check.

    Your details and CV/resume will be forwarded to the Employment Screening Unit (ESU) to commence the process. ESU will email you links to the forms and declarations you are required to complete.

    Please ensure you complete all screening documentation within the required timeframes to avoid any impacts in relation to your re-engagement application.
